HA HA HA! I’ve always wanted to say that! Yes, it’s my birthday today (August 26), and I thought I’d treat myself by drawing DEIMOS in my BRYCE PETERS style. I forget how freeing and liberating it is to draw in that art style. I adored sketching and coloring this adorably hunky version of the Taro Demon. I hope you enjoy him too, since he’s as much a gift for you as he is for me. Naturally, I had to make him into some wallpaper for you guys!
Oh boy! The end of August is already here. To say this Summer didn’t go exactly as planned is a gross understatement. One shouldn’t cry over spilled milk, I suppose, but after losing our printer, struggling to find a suitable replacement (eventually finding a wonderful one here in Canada), saying goodbye to a number of friends and trusted artists and the ever looming threat of the Canada Post strike, it feels as though the Summer Season was filled with more problems and trouble shooting than actual progress.
Typically, the Summer Season is one in which we release our “blockbusters”, and while we did put out MAKO FINN #2, BEAUTIFUL DEAD #2 and THE BRIGAYDE #1, the success of the latter two titles, both greatly anticipated by fans and creators alike, has been considerably hampered by a lack of print edition. Sure, we’ve released BEAUTIFUL DEAD #2 in print now that we have a new printer to work with, and THE BRIGAYDE #1 will be available in print shortly as well, but you can only make a first impression once.
So on my 43rd birthday (GOOD LORD time flies!), I feel a little bit frustrated, but also excited, because the Summer is drawing to a close, and soon, the FALL SEASON will begin. All the projects that were intended for the warm months but that didn’t see the light of day are coming your way in the next few months.
What can you expect to see this Fall? “TALES OF THE TARO DEMON #2”, Iceman Blue’s “LOST FANTASY HERO VS ZAHN”, “CLASS COMICS HOOK-UPS #2 featuring Deimos and Zahn”, Michael Broderick’s “SCARED STIFF” and an all-new MEATY! All that and more, to be sure. That’s worth being happy about.
In other news, those of you subscribed to the Class Comics Newsletter will see that we’ve given our mailer a slick make-over and that I’ve returned to the STRIPSHOW this month as writer and artist. I wanted to parody the current Pokémon craze – one in which ROBERT FRASER, my husband and business partner, is deeply engrossed! So CAMILI-CAT plays my own version of the game in a silly little episode called “The Hunt”. Beware OOTAWAGS!
Great news for all of your SPACE CADET fans. Bruno Gmünder has announced that it will be releasing a massive 200-page trade come 2017. “SPACE CADET: The Complete Collection” will literally feature every single BYRON DURAND story that Class Comics has ever created, up until his recent transformation from SPACE CADET to NAKED JUSTICE! It’ll have art by yours truly, the wonderful DAVID CANTERO, JACOB MOTT, LEON DE LEON, BOB GREY and a ton of other awesome artists. Seriously! I. CAN’T. WAIT.
Lastly, I want to thank all of you for your patience and support this Summer. I know that things weren’t exactly business as usual, and I also know that you are all patiently awaiting the arrival of your favorite books in print. Fraser and I truly appreciate your continued support and encouragement, and believe me when I tell you that we are always working toward creating the very best Adult Gay Comics we possibly can and delivering them into your eager hands, both in digital and print editions.
So off I got to celebrate. I leave you now in the capable, very buff arms of Deimos and his pals. I hope your Summer was less frustrating than mine, and that you all enjoyed the past few months. Until next month (because, YES, I plan to write you once a month from here on in – my way of updating you and keeping in closer touch) I wish you all an awesome weekend. Thanks for reading. As always, I welcome your comments and look forward to reading and answering them.
All the very best,
Patrick Fillion
